Safety is our Top Priority

Norman B. Barr Camp is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all our campers and cottager volunteers. Prior to working with camper children, all of our staff members and volunteers undergo background checks. Our staff are all trained in the Child First Protection & Prevention program. NBBC staff and volunteers perform regular inspections of the property and provide advanced first aid and CPR training for key staff members and interested volunteers. NBBC staff and volunteers make sure we meet the State of Wisconsin Chapter DHS 175 standards for Recreational and Educational Camps every year. NBBC has relationships with Walworth County emergency response services and with Mercy Hospital and Medical Center-Walworth which is less than 10 minutes away.

FIRST AID & CPR/AED TRAINING

Norman B. Barr Camp recognizes the importance of early defibrillation in saving lives. There are 2 AEDs strategically located on the camp's grounds. Staff are trained in AED application and are certified by the American Red Cross. AEDs save lives if people are trained to use them properly. You can review an AED use demonstration video by clicking here: AED Demonstration

Our counselors and staff are also certified in the American Red Cross "Responding to Emergencies" advanced first aid.

TORNADO SHELTERS

NBBC has a designated and regularly inspected tornado shelter. NBBC staff cell phones have real-time emergency weather alert apps and our office is equipped with an emergency weather radio all of which provide early notification of severe weather.

BUG BITES & STINGS

Prevention is the key! Counselors assist our campers with appropriate and regular application of insect repellent and other measures to prevent insect bites and stings. Following hiking activities our counselors assist campers with tick inspections.
